Frequently Asked Questions

About the Alignment Program for 26 & 2

So what is this thing?

It's a classroom discussion. We sit down and talk about some ideas, then stand up and see how they feel, then sit down and talk some more, then stand up and work it out, etc... We do it all within the standard 26 & 2 poses and breathing exercises. It's not a yoga class or "master class" or anything like that. Each clinic is meant to be a conversation between us, together, about the way that bodies work.

Is it heated?

No, though it is normally taught in your studio's hot room space, so there might be a little residual heat from previous classes.

What should I wear?

I usually tell people to wear something they would feel comfortable in for a non-heated yoga class. You should be able to move easily and do the poses, but there won't be much sweat.

Is it hard?

It's not meant to be, but people sometimes find it to be a bit of a workout. This is not because we do intense poses or long holds, we don't, but rather because using the body in healthy alignment can activate unused muscle groups and movement chains.

Can I Bring a Notebook?

Absolutely. Please feel free to take notes in whatever way works for you. It's important to me that you get the most value possible out of this program, and much of it may take a little while to marinate with you, so notes can be extremely valuable.

What about a Cell Phone?

As a general rule, I try to keep the cell phone use to a minimum in the classroom as it can be distracting. However, there will be several drawings put up over the course of the class, including some website information, so there will be some time allowed at the end of the clinic to take pictures and/or video that you might find helpful.

Where Did all This information Come From?

Largely from the Anusara method, which I learned from Justicia Declue at Maha Yoga in their Alignment-Based Hatha Yoga Teacher Training (which I highly recommend for students in the Philadelphia area). I remember vividly the day we started working on this body method, I immediately felt it had incredible potential to empower students of 26 & 2, and I have not been disappointed.

The program has also been influenced by the work of Richard Freeman, a teacher in the Ashtanga method, Zhenja La Rosa, a master teacher I have the pleasure of studying with in the Philadelphia area, Thomas Myers, and countless yoga teachers in the Bikram, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vinyasa, and Hatha schools. None of it is my own invention, I have merely packaged it and made it presentable to students of 26 & 2 in the hope that our community can benefit.

Where's the next one?

I've been overwhelmed by the response to this program. There's almost always another one in the pipeline. You can check out my Upcoming Events page.

How Do I Bring the Alignment Program for 26 & 2 To My Studio?

The best way to bring the Alignment Program to your community is just get in touch. No matter where you are, just let me know you're interested and I will see about getting you scheduled for a visit. It is my personal mission to spread this work to as many students, teachers, and communities as possible, it would be my pleasure to work with you.
